Mill Cottage occupies an idyllic position in the Old Water Valley in the historic Parish of Irongray, Dumfries and Galloway. It sits on the banks of the Old Water, which flows from nearby Glenkiln, famed for its outdoor sculptures by Moore, Epstein and Rodin. The nearby hills are seeped in Covenanting history. A loop of the National Cycle Byway runs close by the cottage.

In an ideal location for holiday cottages, Mill Cottage is situated approximately 6 miles west of Dumfries and some two miles north of the A75, the main arterial route through South West Scotland. The town of Dumfries - ‘Queen of the South’ and capital of the region, is a little more than 10 minutes drive along quiet country lanes.
Directions:
From the south, leave the M74 at Junction 22 and take the A75 to Dumfries/Stranraer.
From the north, leave the M74 at junction 15 and take the A701 to Dumfries. Approaching Dumries, follow the signs for A75 Stranraer.
Approximately 6 miles west of Dumfries, turn right off the A75 , signposted for Shawhead. In Shawhead village, turn right and then left on to the Dunscore road. After three quarters of a mile turn right into a small lane, Mill Cottage is on the right.
